Why Your Brand Needs More Than Just a Logo

From time to time I’ll get an inquiry come in for someone wanting just a logo. I totally get where these brand owners are coming from, but I do my best to also share with them the value of having a full, holistic brand identity. Maybe they are just starting out and funds are tight or maybe they are in a rush to meet a deadline—whatever it is, I’m here to share why it’s important for brands to have more than just a logo.

ONE.

A Holistic Experience from the Start

By diving into your brands values, vision and future goals, we’ll work together to create a brand identity that allows for a holistic experience and brand evolution. Before I ever open up Illustrator, I work closely with my clients to understand their pain points, needs and target audience to ensure we’re creating a purposeful brand identity. Your brand identity will help create that overall feeling you want your customers to feel when they see your brand.

TWO.

Build a Strong Foundation

As a logo and brand identity designer, I will help make sure you have a strong foundation for your company’s appearance. Offerings for a strong brand identity package typically include: primary logo, secondary logo, mark, pattern, color and complementary font pairings. These assets allow for you to look your best no matter the presentation of your brand.

Although it might seem like a large investment (both time and money) up front, you can feel confident that you’ll have these assets at your fingertips vs. having to track down a designer to create additional items as you need.

Example: Your brand mark could be used digitally as your Instagram profile photo and on print with a wax seal. Your brand pattern could be used digitally for a newsletter campaign and on print as beautiful, custom tissue paper.

THREE.

Create Know-Like-Trust with Your Audience

Once you wrap up your brand identity, you’ll have these assets to utilize across platforms and to infuse in your print collateral. To keep things looking on-brand, you can reference your Brand Guideline that shows you how to properly use your branding. This is especially beneficial if you have a team or outsource tasks such as website design, social media graphics or presentation design.

Example: If you’re preparing for a keynote speaker opportunity, you can pass along your brand guideline + files to a designer to have them create a beautiful and on-brand presentation for you. This will help create that know-like-trust factor, as your branding, colors and typography will be utilized throughout the presentation.
