Word of the Year: Growth

As a business owner who practices more of a holistic approach to goal setting, numbers and the “business” side of things, setting a resolution has never felt right. It’s often felt that a resolution is something I have to achieve, and if I don’t I’ve failed.

Instead, I reframe the process and choose to focus on a word for the year, that will be a gentle reminder and guide. This year’s word is growth. Now for some, growth automatically equals bigger, better and faster—but that’s not my approach to it. Instead, I’m using it as a tool to grow holistically, both professionally and personally. Below I break down some small ways on how I plan to accomplish it this season and year.

ONE.

Re-enrolling in a Mastermind

Last summer I enrolled in my first ever mastermind. This was a new experience for me, but one I knew I wanted to take. I specifically enrolled in a mastermind/intensive to better my css and Squarespace skills, and the end result was so much more than bettering my craft. It propelled me to think more strategically, hone in on my process and to connect with like-minded creatives.

I’m back in the same mastermind again starting in January and have already started to take additional steps to grow my creative Squarespace design skills, as well as my confidence.

TWO.

Welcoming a Growth Mindset

Mindset is something I’ve really started to dabble in during last season, and it’s something I want to continue to work on. I have a few podcasts here and here that I enjoy listening to on a walk to break up the day. I’m also planning to sprinkle in meditation and to really come from a place of growth and community  vs. scarcity.

THREE.

Continuing to Simplify

Rather than add to my plate with more offerings, this year I plan to re-evaluate my current brand, website and photography offerings to make sure they still fully serve me and my clients. This is a great time to reflect on what’s worked, take note of small refinements to be made and possibly edit out what’s not flowing well. After all, I’m all about less is more.

There you have it, some of the tactics I’ll use to reflect growth throughout 2020. Wishing you all a successful and beautiful year!
