How to Create a Compelling About Page

An about page is a place where you can share more about what sets you apart as a business owner, while also creating a connection with your potential clients. Beyond your basic bio, consider adding a few fun items to your about page. Below we break down a few ways to help create a compelling and converting about page for your Squarespace website.

ONE.

Content Prep: Imagery

Having the right visuals to tell your story is important, especially for your Squarespace website. Round up your favorite authentic headshot, or better yet, a behind-the-scenes shot that can help potential clients visualize what it's like to work with you.

If you have a team, make sure to gather headshots for them as well!

TWO.

Content Prep: Website Copy

This is where most business owners freeze. Writing your own bio can be challenging, but if you break it down into a few steps, it’s totally doable (and almost pain free).

Lead with a headline: Introduce yourself and what you do and who you serve. Couple that with a bit of your business background, what makes your company different, company values or even a fun fact (or two). This helps potential clients get to know you better.

End with a quick reminder on how you can help support them—after all that’s why they are checking out your website in the first place. Bonus points if you have a strong call to action that leads them to your services or booking page!

THREE.

Content Prep: Bonus Assets

To create a strong about page, you can also consider infusing what I like to call “bonus content”, which ranges from assets like previous client testimonials, publication features, or even more behind-the-scenes photos. These website assets are the sprinkles on top and can really drive home that you’re a legit, honest business that’s here to make the process fun.

If writing your website copy is stopping you from taking action on a new site or a website refresh, you can also reach out to copywriters who specialize in brand messaging. This way, you’re creating strong, value-based content that’s in alignment with your brand values. I also offer copy prompts for all my Squarespace website clients who aren’t working with a copywriter. If you’d like extra support this season, I’m taking on a few Squarespace website clients, so now is the chance to work together and build an online home you’re proud of.
